The water in a backyard garden pool is exposed to various external factors. Falling leaves, insects floating on the water's surface, and all kinds of organic waste (hair, skin cells, cosmetic residues) are just some of the contaminants that disrupt the carefree enjoyment of swimming. Therefore, every garden pool, even a small one, should be equipped with a water purification system. Regular use of pool chemicals combined with a properly selected filter pump guarantees safe, clean, and clear water, as well as comfort for all pool users.
How does a pool filter pump work?
A garden pool pump operates in a closed circuit. First, it draws water through the skimmer (surface debris collector), and then pumps it under pressure through the filtering medium.
There are various filter media, with the most popular being: sand, glass, ecological balls, and paper filters. The main task of a pool pump filter is to mechanically clean the water of all impurities, such as leaves, insects, pollen, sand, or skin cells, in order to maintain its hygienic cleanliness and crystal clarity.
After purification, the filter pump pumps clean water back into the pool basin. The device forces water movement, which also aids in the distribution of pool chemicals (chlorine and more).
For the pump to operate effectively, it should run for several hours a day – preferably when no one is using the pool (for example, at night).
Pool filtration – different types of pumps
With the development of technology, newer and newer filter pump systems are emerging. Their greatest advantages are ease of assembly, operation, and maintenance.
How to choose the right pump? It all depends on the size of the tank and the intensity of use. A cartridge pool pump with a paper filter will work well for a smaller pool. To ensure crystal clear water in a larger tank, it is worth opting for an efficient sand filter pump. Sand filter pumps use quartz sand, filter glass, or special filter balls to trap impurities. These modern devices are extremely efficient, durable, and easy to use.
For smaller pools – cartridge filter pump
In the ondaFlo online store, you will find a cartridge filter pump from the renowned pool accessory manufacturer Intex. A flow rate of 3785 liters per hour allows for efficient water exchange in the pool in a relatively short time. Proper circulation reduces sediment formation, decreases water turbidity, limits algae growth, and improves the effectiveness of pool chemicals. This, in turn, translates into lower pool operating costs.
The Intex cartridge pump is compatible with a type A paper filter. This filter is made of high-quality filter paper equipped with numerous micro-holes. Thicker, heavier paper and a greater number of pleats than in the standard model help maintain ideal water cleanliness in the pool and extend the pump's lifespan.
The biggest advantages of the Intex cartridge pump with a paper filter are: low initial costs and ease of installation. A simple cover locking system allows quick access to the cartridge without the need for specialized tools. The filter should be replaced every two to three weeks (depending on the pool's usage).
For medium and larger pools – sand filter pump
To maintain cleanliness in medium and larger garden pools, it is worth investing in a reliable sand filter pump. At ondaFlo, we offer the Krystal Clear model from Intex, which – thanks to a flow rate of up to 3500 liters per hour – ensures efficient pool water exchange.
The Intex Krystal Clear pump is equipped with a multi-functional valve that allows for: filtration, backwash, rinse, recirculation, drain, and system close. With the built-in timer, you can easily set the pump's operating time, while the pressure gauge will help you determine when the filter requires backwashing.
The Krystal Clear pool pump is compatible with three types of filter media (sand, glass, and balls). Of particular note are the ecological Intex filter balls, which are very efficient, environmentally friendly, and easy to use. A half-kilogram package of balls is equivalent to as much as eighteen kilograms of sand. What's more, Intex balls are a reusable product. Depending on the degree of dirt, the cartridge can be rinsed or washed (according to the manufacturer's recommendations).
Crystal clear pool water thanks to products from ondaFlo
Clean pool water is a guarantee of safety and comfort. In the ondaFlo online store, you will find all the products and accessories necessary to maintain the cleanliness of your backyard garden pool.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the details of pumps and filters for garden pools. Every filtration system available in our store is compatible with ondaFlo inflatable PVC pools. Filters can also be purchased separately, making it easy to replenish household supplies.
Finally, we recommend our pool chemicals and pool cleaning accessories. Pool chemicals and a filter pump constitute two complementary water purification systems: physical (pump) and chemical (chemicals). Chemicals alone without filtration will not remove mechanical impurities, and the pump alone will not kill bacteria and algae. The cooperation of the pump and chemicals ensures crystal clear and safe water.
